Fall Tryouts - September 2010

(Huskies 2009-2010 Major Bantam Boys)

After a relatively successful season last year, the under 14 Major Bantam Boys Travel Team will once again be in operation for 2010-2011. All boys (whether you've played before in our leagues or not) in grades 7-8 (born in or after 1997) with a desire to become better basketball players and the will and determination to make it happen are invited to attend.

All players should try to work out during this off season to improve ball handling skills. Try and use both hands and attempt to dribble around your bodies and between you legs.

Tryouts will be used to determine your current skill level and equally if not more importantly to ascertain your desire to improve and work as a team.

Off and Running

We have now competed in 2 exhibition games with teams from Guelph and Burlington. Our guys have tried hard under game conditions. The team is a combination of hustle and size. With a lot of hard work we know that we can exceed expectations; Coach Steve and I look forward to moving our guys from "rookies" to "veterans".

Our first game in Guelph was a contest that offered us a lot of opportunities to win the game. We struggled to capitalize on our height advantage and wound up losing 37-24. Chris Huffman, Austin Zeller, Jeffrey Mauro and Cordell Ornifrichuk were scorers for the Huskies.

In our second match at McKinnon Park, we faced a Burlington team that was executing as in mid-season form. We were confronted with an aggressive defense that included a press. When opportunities did arise, we had some success in taking it to the basket. It was a long night however and we lost 63-31. Scorers for the Huskies were: Chris Huffman, Ronnie Taylor, Jeffrey Mauro, Nick Mallet and Austin Zeller.

With only 1 practice session before the Christmas Break, we'll need a hard push from all the guys to elevate our game to a more competitive level in the new year.

Tryouts for Under 14 Bantam Boys - 2009

U14 - Major Bantam Coach

Who: All registered Haldimand Huskies players in grades 6, 7 and 8 and under 14 years of age (born in 1996 or younger) are invited to try out.

What: A team of 10-12 players will be picked to represent the Haldimand Huskies. Anyone making this team must be committed to making basketball his highest priority sport this fall and winter. As a member of the Haldimand Huskies he will also be required to attend regular league games that do not interfer will travel team games.

Our mission is to promote self-esteem in the spirit of friendship and cooperation in a positive sports environment while focusing on teamwork and individual skills development.

When: Tryouts continue on the following dates

Sunday November 1 - 11:00am - 12:30 pm (Standard Time) - McKinnon

Monday November 2 - 7:00 - 8:30pm - McKinnon

Tuesday November 3 - 8:30 -10:00pm - McKinnon

Friday November 6 - 7:00 - 8:30pm - McKinnon

How: Upon making the team, each player will be required to pay an additional fee over and above the league registration fee. The plan currently calls for a fee of between $140 and $150. Each player will receive a team uniform that must be returned in its original condition at the end of the season; current plans are being made to play in 3 tournaments and 9 interleague/exhibition games. If the team wishes, they can undertake appoved fundraisers to reduce costs and/or participate in other activities.
